Nicholas Donohue
Special Master To Depart Hope High
Donohue Oversaw School's Transition

A special master assigned to oversee the reorganization of Providence's troubled Hope High School will leave
the post next month, state Education Commissioner Peter McWalters said Wednesday.
A news release said Nicholas Donohue will join the Nellie Mae Education Foundation in Quincy, Mass., in
December.
Donohue was appointed as special master of Hope High in March 2005. He helped oversee the reorganization
of the school into three small learning communities.
McWalters said he has no plans to name a successor.
"The work before us now is more about supporting capacity for change at the district level. While we continue to
monitor the implementation of the order at Hope, we will now be focusing our efforts at the district level,"
McWalters said in a news release.
Donohue told the Board of Regents for Elementary and Secondary Education that he has seen an
improvement in community and parental involvement at Hope, but he said the building's physical shape, the
attendance rate and the high dropout rate are still concerns.
