Chris was threatened with arrest and imprisonment
for up to one year if he ran for the Lt. Governor seat
in the 2006 election. In a challenge against the new
state law barring individuals from running for more
than one office, Young stated “It’s necessary to do
this in the name of justice and to preserve a
democratic society. People should have the right to
vote for the candidate of their choosing. The basic
right to vote is now in jeopardy." Young further
stated, "How is this a democratic society if I can be
thrown in prison just for running for office?" In Young’
s declaration, Young stated “Since I was one a few
candidates to run for two offices at the same time in
the last election, I must assume that this law was
specifically written against me and those of my
constituents that chose to vote for me and gave me
approximately 28% of the vote in my last election
where I ran against Paul Moura and Rhoda Perry. I
believe the will of the people and their constitutional
right to vote for their choice of candidate cannot be
denied in a truly democratic society.” The 2006
election was topped with numerous counts of
election fraud. Young had only 4 articles written on
him out of a possible 4000 written on his opponents
in the 2006 election, a media black out.
Chris Young also ran for two offices at the same
time as a Democratic candidate for State Senate
District 3, the East Side, and the House of
Representatives District 2, Fox Point, getting close to
28% of the vote with almost no media coverage and
taking no money in campaign contributions.
Christopher Young ran for the U.S. Senate in 2000
and Mayor of Providence 2002. Christopher was
